Pot may be legal for some, but not feds

While it may be legal in some states to smoke medical or recreational marijuana, the federal government still insists on a drug-free workforce, reports Government Executive.

So even though some places like Colorado have decriminalized the sale and consumption of recreational pot, using the weed is still against federal law, so the ban on using it remains in place for federal employees in those jurisdictions, the article notes.

While it's illegal to smoke pot in the federal workplace, the article notes that agencies are unlikely to meddle in what employees do on their own time. At the same time, smoking off the job could prove problematic for employees whose employing agencies have more stringent drug-testing policies due to their missions.
